President's Letter
OKCEC
January 2012
Happy New Year! I
hope your holiday season was restful and enjoyable. Now that you
and your students are returning back to the last semester of the
school year you are working hard to prepare them for their future.
I am so excited
about this year’s conference “Failure is NOT an Option” .
The
conference will take place at the Moore Norman Technology Center
(South Penn Campus) on February 27 and 28. Heather Caram, the
conference chair and other members have been working hard to plan
the 2012 Conference. We try our very best to provide high-quality
conference sessions that provide you with current research and
effective strategies and practices. We would like to thank the
Oklahoma State Department of Education for co-sponsoring this event
and for providing personnel to present at our annual conference. We
also want to thank the Oklahoma Directors of Special Services for
providing funds for our college students, who are our future
teachers, to attend this conference.
The conference
kicks off Monday night with our key note speaker Mr. Alan Blankstein
who is the author of “Failure is NOT an Option”. You might want to
read his book before hearing Mr. Blankstein. This is a real treat
to hear a great speaker and have a box dinner. You will also have
the opportunity to see many vendors displaying their newest special
education products.
Tuesday morning
we will have our awards. This is a wonderful opportunity to
nominate the people at your school who do an outstanding job. We
will follow up the morning with Mr. Blankstein again. Andrea R.
Kunkel, Esq. will be our lunch speaker. She will give us the
current updates on legislation, court cases and special education
policies. The afternoon breakout sessions will be hard to choose –
we have sessions on Behavior, Co-Teaching, Differentiated
Instruction, Common Core and Secondary Transition to name a few.
I look forward to
seeing you at the 2012 OKCEC Conference on February 27 and 28, 2012.
